We have dedicated our 35th annual Oregon Festival of American Music, both winter and summer, to an exploration and celebration of the huge body of songs and music from throughout the world and down the byways of America which have made their way into the American popular music and jazz canons. In January Festival Artistic Director Chuck Redd and company looked at the extraordinarily rich musical intersection of France & the United States. This August they will explore American musical crosscurrents and convergences more broadly, with dives not only into the musical journeys of other countries (Brazil, Eastern and Southern Europe, France, and the British Isles) but also into other North American musical traditions (the blues, traditional/roots music), and the European art music tradition both in Europe and the United States which have found a place in the Classic Songbook and jazz mainstream.
As usual Artistic Director Chuck Redd and company offer up 8 unique concerts (most with 2 performances), the Jazz Party, talks, films, and 2 community sing alongs!
